Is Blogging Necessary in 2023?


If you want customers to find you online, you must blog. 


We all know we can put nitro up our websites by throwing our wallets at Google, Pinterest, YouTube, TikTok, LinkedIn, Tumblr, Instagram and Facebook traffic campaign Ads. But the clever way to create a website that attracts continuous traffic is to publish blogs containing information your target market seeks. 


Let's say you're a photographer or a business coach. Or perhaps you sell organic skincare or educational games for kids. Maybe you sell herbal tea, domain hosting, dropshipping t-shirts, online courses or handmade macrame pot plant holders. Perhaps you have a gym. Maybe you're a horse whisperer. Whatever service or product you provide, someone else is offering it too. 


I hear you say that your offering is better. It's cheaper. It gets the desired results faster. It uses better-quality raw materials. 


I hear you say your customer service is exemplary. I hear you say you're more highly skilled, experienced, or educated than your competitors. 


Perhaps you've written a marketing plan, so you know precisely what your sources of competitive advantage are, and you have refined your point of difference. 


These things are all well and good, but here's the thing … . .


…. your future customers don't know any of these things. When they go to Google to search for the thing you're best at, how will they find you if your website isn't filled with the information they are looking for? 


Now I hear you say your homepage is keyword rich, and your product descriptions are detailed enough to attract potential customers. But these are static, and Google has already indexed them. 


Then I hear you say you get customers from referrals or your strategic retention strategies. But brand loyalty only lasts so long, and people are switchers. 


And I'll know you'll say you get your customers from social media. And this is fantastic, but by golly, creating scroll-stopping graphics on Canva, taking product photos all the time, writing catchy captions and dancing on reels every other day is exhausting and expensive because you either have the time cost if you're to create all this or a money cost if you outsource it.

Okay … so you have a podcast. Great!  

You YouTube. Even better!!  

You attend networking events all the time. Fantastic!!!  

You hired a media buying agency and are paying for an omnichannel integrated communications marketing campaign. Bravo!!!!  

And I wholeheartedly encourage you to do all this, especially digital advertising, but .... when time is precious and money more so …….


I know what I'd prefer to be doing … 


Blogging. 


Hubspot looked at data from 1531 small and medium-sized businesses and discovered that companies that blog get 55% more website visitors. Research by Demand Metric revealed that 70% of people would rather learn about a brand from blog articles than ads, and businesses that blog see 13 times the ROI of companies that don't.


The evidence is crystal clear.

When you blog, you increase your website traffic and sales.


And, honestly, blogging doesn't have to consume lots of time. 



Let's drag blogging out of the "too hard basket" at place it on the "I am doing" list. I paid for copysmith.ai before I discovered how powerful Jasper AI is. I did the free trial for anyword.com and loved it so much that I signed up for a subscription. I have ChatGPT in my bookmarks, but I do forget to use it. Even Neil Patel, the king of SEO, created an AI writer at Ubersuggest.


Apart from helping you cut down the time it takes to write blogs, here are some reasons why AI is so good:

  2. Quality: AI content is generally high-quality, well-written, and grammatically correct.

I hardly ever use AI writing tools because I find pleasure in writing; however, there is one tool that I can't live without ....  My favourite blogging tool of all time is Grammarly. I don't know how any small business owners can survive without it. Maybe it's just me because I'm great at typo errors, and I must have been asleep in grammar classes in primary school. Grammarly edits your writing wherever you write as you write (in every app, including emails and SMS) and makes suggestions for correctness, clarity, engagement and delivery. You tell it what style you want to write in, and it rates your writing style. Every year I fork out $210 for the premium version, and it's one tool I am more than happy to pay for.


Grammarly also has a plagiarism tool that checks if your writing is 100% original.
